For treating female fertility issues, Dr. Chamoun will prescribe fertility medications when appropriate and necessary. One of the common fertility drugs is Clomid.
Clomid is an ovulatory stimulant used for the treatment of ovulation dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy. Clomid stimulates the release of pituitary hormones necessary for ovulation to occur. Clomid is an oral tablet usually taken in 5 day cycles. It stimulates ovulation and then intercourse or IUI is timed to coincide with the expected time of ovulation.
70 – 80% of patients with ovulation dysfunction will ovulate on Clomid, and 60 – 70% will get pregnant within six cycles of use. It’s highly effective with few side effects, and therefore one of the simplest and least invasive treatments when lack of ovulation is the cause of infertility.
