Pill users may have shorter reproductive lifespan

At Viera Fertility Center, we work with individuals and couples on achieving the family of their dreams. And as fertility medicine continues to evolve, new findings indicate that use of hormonal birth control pills may deplete a woman’s ovarian reserve, thereby shortening her reproductive lifespan.

In research presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, Dr Kathrine Birch Petersen presented her findings that two markers of ovarian reserve are depleted in women with a history of hormonal birth control use. This may mean fewer reproductive years and an earlier onset of menopause for women who have used birth control pills.
