1-2% of United States births result of assisted fertility
At Viera Fertility Center, we remind couples all the time that treatment for infertility is no longer rare and they’re not suffering along. A new report published today affirms this position with findings that 1 or 2 in every 100 United States births is the result of conception using some form of fertility treatment.
The report details that in vitro fertilization (IVF) resulted in “a record 61,740 babies in 2012. That is 2,000 more than the previous year and 1.5 per cent of all births in the nation.”
The report also finds that while the early days of fertility treatment resulted in many multiple births, most women today are transferring just one embryo at a time and having far fewer multiple births. This is partly the result of more predictable procedures and greater chance of success with each embryo transfer.
We share this data to highlight that fertility treatment is no longer rare and that nearly 2% of US live births are achieved with fertility assistance. If you’re feeling alone in the journey, rest assured that Dr. Chamoun is here to assist you and the many Melbourne FL families undergoing fertility treatments this year!
