Your reproductive health and thyroid disease

At Viera Fertility Center, we’re prepared to treat fertility issues stemming from a variety of sources. One issue we commonly confront is thyroid disease. Hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid, is seen almost twice as much in infertility medicine as in the general population, which evidences a link between the disorder and fertility abnormalities.

Thyroid hormones control the metabolism via the production of two hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine. These hormones also have key roles in growth and development, particularly brain development. Changes in thyroid function can impact greatly on reproductive function before, during, and after conception.

Thyroid disease can have significant effects on a woman’s reproductive health and screening for women presenting with fertility problems and recurrent early pregnancy loss should be considered. If you suspect thyroid issues could be a contributing factor in your infertility, contact Dr. Chamoun today and we will work to pinpoint the reasons why you have yet to conceive the baby of your dreams.
